India is all set to take on New Zealand in the prestigious World Test Championship (WTC) final which will be held from June 18 to June 22. This historic match will be hosted by England. Team India left for England earlier this morning. Captain Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri participated in a virtual press conference last night.
They were unaware that the press meet had already started and had an interesting discussion. In this leaked chat, we can see Virat telling Shastri, “Hum unko round the wicket dalwayenge. Left-handers hai inpe. Lala (Mohammed Shami), Siraj sabko start se hi laga denge.” The chat translates to, “We will bowl them (New Zealand) round the wicket. There are a lot of left-handers on their side (referring to Devon Conway, Tom Latham, and Henry Nicholls). We will make Shami and Siraj bowl right from the start.” With this statement, Kohli almost revealed that both Shami and Siraj will play the WTC final.
This leaked conversation is now going viral on social media and leaving fans in splits. Speaking to the press, Kohli said that lack of match practice won’t affect his team as they are not playing in England for the first time. Shastri described this match as, ‘the biggest if not the biggest ever.’
Team India will be in quarantine for a week before taking part in the match practice. On the flip side, New Zealand players have already reached England long back and are currently playing a bilateral Test series against the Brits.
Mary Kom Says ‘Olympics Is Badly Organised’
MC Mary Kom lost in her quarter final bout against Colombian Rio 2016 bronze medallist Ingrit Valencia at the Tokyo Olympics. She was declared the loser in a 3-2 decision in the quarter-final bout.
Speaking to a news channel, Mary Kom said that, “When I entered the doping centre to give my sample after the fight, even then I couldn’t believe that I lost. My coach was trying to tell me that I won, but what does that mean I’m not able to understand.”
She further added that, “I thought I was winning the fight. Then I saw Kiren Rijiju’s tweet on social media about my defeat, I was shocked and upset after that. I don’t know what to say, I can’t believe a decision like this was made.”
She also said that, “I can’t even protest because we were told that’s not allowed in this Olympics. Things like these have happened to me in the past as well in other competitions. It’s not the case with this Olympics alone. A similar thing happened with me in the last boxing world championships also.”
She asserted that this was the worst Olympics for her and very badly organised.
Mirabai Chanu May Get Gold At Tokyo Olympics 2020
India’s Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu might have a chance of winning Gold medal in the 49 kg women’s category. According to the reports, China’s gold medal winner Hou Zhihui has been asked to stay in Tokyo and is being tested by the anti-doping authorities. If Zhihui fails the test, then Mirabai could get her medal upgrades. If it happens, it is going to be a historic moment for Mirabai who will become the first women to ever win a Gold medal in weightlifting for India.
China’s Zhihui Hou won the gold medal in the women’s 49-kg weightlifting, lifting a total of 210 kg, while Indonesia’s Windy Cantika Aisah won the bronze medal. Chanu lifted a total of 202 kg in the women’s 49kg category. After Karnam Malleswari, Mirabai Chanu became the second Indian weightlifter to win medal in Olympics. A new record was registered by Mirabai Chanu with a successful lift of 115kg in clean and jerk.
Bharat Mata Ki Jai: Mirabai Receives Grand Welcome At Delhi Airport
Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu reached India today after winning the silver medal in the women’s 49kg category at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Everyone in the airport chanted ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and she walked out of the Indira Gandhi International Airport with security and clad in a face shield and mask.
The officials of the Sports Authority of India felicitated Mirabai Chanu. After reaching home, Mirabai Chanu tweeted, “Happy to be back here amidst so much love and support.”
Mirabai Chanu speaking to a news agency said that “It was quite challenging. We started preparation in 2016 and changed the training pattern after Rio Olympics. We (Chanu & her coach) have dedicated the last 5 years to Tokyo Olympics.”
Mirabai Chanu won India’s first medal at Tokyo Olympics. On Saturday, she bagged the silver after she lifted 202kg (87kg+115kg) in the 49kg category. She became the first Indian weightlifter to win the silver medal at the Olympic Games and also became the first Indian to win an Olympic medal at the 2020 Tokyo Games in the Women’s 49kg category.
